MUDAM LUXEMBOURG - MUSÉE D'ART MODERNE GRAND-DUC JEAN
This museum, housed in an ultra-designed building in Kirchberg, honours contemporary art in all its forms.
Since its opening in 2006, Mudam has quickly established itself as a key venue for contemporary art in Luxembourg. The magnificent building, designed by the famous Sino-American architect Ieoh Ming Pei, is characterized by the size of its glass roof and is an undeniable contributor to this success.
Erected on the historic Dräi Eechelen site (Three Acorns Park), overlooking the splendid historic center of Luxembourg City, it symbolizes the country's openness to modernity and contemporary culture. The acquisition policy for the museum's collection is thus resolutely oriented towards the young generations of artists who are seizing current trends in photography, painting, drawing, video, new technologies, fashion, design, graphics, sound and architecture. The collection, which also includes reference works, is unveiled in stages within temporary presentations. Mudam calls upon the greatest artists to develop its collections and to continue its development, like the work of the Bourroulec brothers who created the design of the Mudam Café (named Pure., open during museum hours). We settle in to finish our visit and discover a simple and light cuisine, based on seasonal products and accompanied by a delicious tea, coffee or glass of wine.
No doubt about it: the Mudam is a must-see for contemporary art lovers as well as architecture enthusiasts. Please note that guided tours are organized.
