Etymologically, the name Bruebach implies a prominence or a big obstacle. It is true that when you arrive in this village of a thousand inhabitants, you climb up a hill. The site has been occupied since the Neolithic period and the name Bruebach was first mentioned in 823. Annexed by Nazi Germany - like the rest of the region - the town was liberated on 20 November 1944 by the Lépinay group of the 1st armoured division. The main attraction of this place nestled behind trees is undoubtedly the church of Saint-Jacques-le-Majeur dating from the Middle Ages. Its nave was enlarged in 1863 thanks to the work of the architect Frederic Gunther.
