Capital of the eponymous commune, Schifflange is a small town located in the south of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, in the heart of the Terres Rouges. Its history is ancient since it was originally created in the year 790. After several centuries under the domination of the Catholic Church, the city gained power around 1287 thanks to the action of Ferry III of Lorraine, Duke of Lorraine. Since then, the town has never stopped growing and gaining inhabitants. Struck by the economic crisis in the 20th century, Schifflange nevertheless recovered. Today, the commune has about 10,450 inhabitants. Looking to the future, the town has many urban projects.
