COCKERILL MINE

The Cockerill mine is the only mine in Luxembourg with a shaft, since the minette was usually extracted through galleries. It was one of the country's main mines from 1881 to 1967, when it ceased to operate. ESCHER DÉI'REPARK - ANIMAL PARK

Since 1962, this small animal park has enabled the inhabitants of Esch and visitors to discover pets in their natural environment just a stone's throw from the town centre, thanks to a circuit designed primarily for children and families. This Esch Noah's Ark is home to roe deer, goats, geese, pheasants and many other species. Possibility to feed the animals thanks to a hay cube dispenser at the entrance. This path, dedicated to the network of the same name, leads through the rich nature surrounding Esch-sur-Alzette, from Ellergronn to the heights of the Gaalgebierg via the Burgronn. The main starting point is the Ellergronn Nature and Forest Centre. The trail is divided into three loops, which follow each other for a total of 12 km. Along the way, there are information boards to help you learn more about the mining landscape and nature conservation projects.

The reception centre is located on the edge of the Ellergronn nature reserve. Generous nature and rare habitats have taken precedence over this former industrial zone. Located in the buildings of the old Cockerill mine, the visitor centre is the starting point for several discovery trails. ST. JOSEPH'S CHURCH

This neo-gothic style church was erected by the architect Charles Arendt at the end of 1873 to 1877, according to plans approved by the father of the neo-gothic Viollet-le-Duc. It strikes from the entrance by its massive façade with its two bell towers and its rosettes with 12 petals. The interior architecture is very well cared for with magnificent life-size statues of saints, perfectly preserved stained glass windows, murals enhanced with gold and a most imposing organ. It is the largest and oldest church in Esch-sur-Alzette.
