This tourist town is located only 5 km northwest of the coast and was established on the side of the small mountain Cerro de São Sebastião. Its name is said to have originated from the 15th century Nossa Senhora da Guia Hermitage, where the Virgin Mary made an apparition. Its population has maintained an agricultural vocation, cultivating figs, almonds and legumes. But the municipality is best known for housing one of the largest shopping centers in the region with a hypermarket and cinemas, as well as a theme park that is very popular in the summer. Nicknamed "the chicken capital" by the locals, the recipe for the famous piri-piri was created here in the 1980s
