The port is also known as El Marsa. It is located 26 km south of Laayoune, on the road to Dakhla. A vestige of the Spanish presence, a huge conveyor belt, used to transport phosphate, crosses the desert over 100 km to the port of Laayoune. The work is impressive. Apart from that, there is not much to see or do. Here, the main activities are the processing and packaging of sea products and the export of phosphate. If you see black and white tents in the middle of the street, they are wedding celebrations. If you approach, you only risk being invited.
