Taroudant, 80 km east of Agadir, is home to around 80,000 inhabitants. Entering the city walls through one of the four main gates, you are immersed in the atmosphere of the Middle Ages. Taroudant has all the makings of a 16th-century Berber town, with its narrow streets, shops and crenellated walls. Inside, there are no historical monuments reflecting the grandeur of the Saadians, but a small, busy town, and crowded streets that have not yet been marked by Western architecture. Here, you can easily wander through the souks, or visit the tanners' quarter, outside the ramparts.
