His reputation precedes him. It is Chile's best-known national park, and certainly one of the most emblematic. The park, declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1978, covers an area of 227,298 hectares and is often included in a stay in neighbouring Argentine Patagonia. It is located between the South Patagonian ice field and the Patagonian steppe (Campo Hielo Sur). The wild beauty of this isolated paradise embodies strength and calm: the land stretches endlessly and the different areas that make it up are the result of the combined influences of altitude, relief and glaciers. The best time to visit the park is between the end of December and the end of March, the temperatures are appreciable and the days are very long. However, the month of November can be beautiful, and there are far fewer people. Generally speaking, the weather is very variable in this region.
