Puerto Natales is an emblematic stage and a starting point to the fabulous Torres Del Paine National Park and the Patagonian canals. The city, founded in 1911, is located between the gulf Almirante Montt and the bay of Ultima Esperanza. It resembles Punta Arenas in the architecture of its small houses with multicoloured corrugated iron roofs, but it does not have the administrative and economic importance of Punta Arenas. However, the atmosphere is cosmopolitan and pleasant and the landscapes are of a melancholic and wild beauty. In recent decades it has become the main attraction of the entire Chilean Patagonian South, one of the Mecca of international tourism in the country, although the atmosphere remains peaceful.
