The village of Chavignol is actually a hamlet of Sancerre. Situated in a bowl amidst the vines, this winegrowers' village is organized along a road that climbs up to the church and then to the Graveron belvedere, from where the panorama of Sancerre is magnificent. A number of signposted hiking trails lead to breathtaking views of the Sancerre region. The village is famous for its crottin de Chavignol cheese! This cheese, famous throughout France, was awarded the appellation d'origine contrôlée in 1976. Today, it is produced more in the surrounding area than in Chavignol itself, where many winegrowers are based.
