This fortified village is built at an altitude of nearly 900 meters, on a plateau crossed by the Regordane Road, a communication route that linked the Mediterranean to the Auvergne. Burned several times during the Hundred Years' War and the Wars of Religion, only the remains of the castle remain. Inside the ramparts stand the high watchtower and the Chapel of Saint-Michel. Even today, the history of the village and its position in a natural landscape give La Garde-Guérin a wild and mysterious beauty. It is one of the Most Beautiful Villages in France which comes alive in the summer.
