TEMPLO DE SANTO DOMINGO ET CAPILLA DEL ROSARIO

This 1690 church, the first in the country dedicated to the Virgen del Rosario, is known for housing the Rosario Chapel, considered in its time as the "eighth wonder of the world" and nowadays as the jewel of Mexican Baroque art. Its ubiquitous and incredibly chiseled decorations are made of plaster and onyx covered with 22-carat gold leaf. This breathtaking decoration is only interrupted by the paintings of José Rodríguez Carnero.
