The magnificent Rajiv Gandhi National Park is better known as Nagarhole. It covers 397 km² and lies 89 km south of Mysore. Buses run twice daily between Mysore and Nagarhole. It is home to an abundance of wildlife and is renowned for being home to black panthers, tigers, leopards and elephants. Its other special feature is the Kabini River, which flows through it and offers sumptuous landscapes bathed in beautiful early-morning light. The reservoir formed by the dam crossing the river attracts many migratory birds in winter, making it a favorite spot for birdwatchers.
