3 km west of Konde, the Ngezi forest covers 2,500 hectares. It is home to endemic plant and animal species. Nearly 355 plant species (including kapok trees, grown here to make mattresses and pillows), almost 150 species of insects, snakes, birds, butterflies, owls to be observed at night, but above all flying fox bats, the largest in the world, which live nowhere else. There is also an area of untouched primary forest, untouched by man. Nearly 60% of the forest is wetland, with many lakes forming during the rainy season.
