Extreme Blue Water Freediving was born from the cooperation between Freedive International and Extreme Blue Water Spearfishing, the leading spearfishing company specializing in ethical spearfishing charters, based in Zanzibar but also operating in Tanzania, Mozambique and Kenya. Freedive International has been teaching freediving since 2003 and has certified thousands of freedivers and freediving instructors.
Together we run a freediving and spearfishing center right on the beach and have two boats to reach all the freediving sites. We can reach a depth of 25 meters only 300 meters from the shore, and within 10-15 minutes drive we can reach a depth of 100 meters. Snorkeling in Zanzibar can be a very rewarding experience, especially if you like marine life and recreational snorkeling: Zanzibar waters are full of dolphins, and we can see groups of swimmers almost every time we take our boat out. We organize trips to the south of the island, where it is almost guaranteed to see dolphins every day, as they are more tame and usually don't run away when we jump in the water
Heiko is our experienced freediving instructor who teaches freediving courses from beginner to level 3. Heiko started freediving on his travels through Latin America, diving in various locations around the Carribes before deciding to become a freediving instructor in 2016. Since then Heiko has taught freediving in Australia, Thailand, Indonesia and now here with us on Zanzibar. He was part of the safety team for the AIDA depth world championships in Roatan and his passion is to facilitate freediving as a sport. He sees himself more as a coach than a teacher in the water, accompanying each student according to their needs and progress. As a certified yoga teacher, he will guide you through comprehensive stretching sessions and mental preparation for freediving. Heiko teaches freediving courses in English and German. He now runs our freediving center in Zanzibar and you can be sure that he will take good care of you! He is constantly learning and interested in understanding the ocean with its currents and marine life. When it comes to conservation, Heiko regularly organizes beach clean-ups. He loves being in the water and enjoys both the deep blue sea and snorkeling along beautiful reefs. In addition, he enjoys a good and challenging underwater hunting session along the reef or in deep water
Zanzibar is an island located in the Indian Ocean, adjacent to Tanzania, on the east coast of Africa. The island is about 85 kilometres long and 39 kilometres wide and is separated from the Tanzanian mainland by a channel which, at its narrowest point, is 36.5 kilometres long. Zanzibar is known for its beautiful white sand beaches and fringing coral reefs, which are rich in marine biodiversity. The capital is Zanzibar City, where the airport is located, and its historic centre, Stone Town, is a World Heritage Site. A day can be spent sightseeing and buying handicrafts in the pretty bazaars dotted around Stone Town. Zanzibar's main industries are spices, raffia and tourism. The island produces cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon and black pepper. This is why, along with Tanzania's Mafia Island, they are sometimes called the Spice Islands
