In 1844, Bor had only 58 houses and 230 inhabitants. It was Georges Weifert, an industrialist of German origin, who, in 1904 and with the financial group Mirabaud, created the French association of the miners of Bor. He is one of the best known men in Serbia, as he was also the creator of the first chamber of commerce in the country and the first governor of the national bank, still present on the 1,000 RSD bills. The arrival of many French people contributed to its development, but on May 30, 1947, the city became one of the largest mining projects of the communist Yugoslavia, of which it is one of the symbols today
