On the border with Kosovo, the 11,800square meter Kopaonik National Park, with no less than ten nature reserves, is not only Serbia's most important mountain range, but also its most developed ski resort. At the top of Kopaonik is a small town organized around a large hotel complex, with bars and discos where the wealthiest families from the Balkans and beyond gather The national park, which can be accessed from the towns of Raška in the west and Brzeće in the east, has an exceptional variety of nature, with landscapes that are rarely encountered. As soon as you enter, you are surprised by the extraordinary variety of beech, pine and fir trees, whose tops are often 15 to 20 meters high. They are spread out between 1,500 and 1,700 m, on high rounded massifs and surrounded by alpine pastures and meadows. Closer to the ground, junipers, blueberries and lindens stand alongside rare species such as ljubičica, režuha and čuvakurća plants, indigenous species. It is estimated that there are more than 1,500 plant species growing and developing in the tall forests of Kopaonik Forest. The bear and the roe deer have unfortunately disappeared from these lands, but the wolf, the fox and the wild rabbit are still found here.
