A beautiful classical monastery, it was built around 1270 by Helena of Anjou, the wife of King Uroš I, where she was buried. The Church of the Annunciation serves as her mausoleum, which is why Gradac is a nuns' monastery today. It was built in the style of the Raška school, while including influences of the Western Romanesque style. Gradac did not live a serene life for long after the death of its founder: it was abandoned during the battle of the Field of Blackbirds in Kosovo in 1389. At the village of Brvenik (12 km north of Raška), turn towards the mountain. Drive 12 km and then turn left at Gornji Gradac.
