Travel Guide Vrnjačka Banja (Врњачка Бања)

Vrnjačka Banja is the most famous spa in Serbia, as well as a very attractive recreational center. Situated in a very large park under often century-old trees, populated with charming private houses, Vrnjačka Banja has a great future. It owes its reputation to its therapeutic effects already known by the Roman troops in the 2nd century. Founded in 1868, it welcomes visitors from all over South-Eastern Europe, who come to rest or to cure certain diseases. The summer is cool, in the shade of the large trees, and the winter is mild: it is the ideal place to recharge your batteries. You can get your own water from one of the five springs in the park: hot (36°C), it is ideal for massages, cold (17°C), it is rather invigorating. The large hotels are numerous and often have swimming pools and game rooms. In addition, there are team sports and beach volleyball courts. In the winter, you can ski on the Goć mountain range, a few kilometers away. Finally, Vrnjačka Banja turns into one of the biggest cultural centers in Serbia in the summer: literary evenings in the beautiful 1900s-style library, classical concerts under the marquees and the film script festival. But perhaps the greatest pleasure here is to stroll along the wide tree-lined alleys, admiring the bourgeois facades or the Belle Époque mansions. The restaurants, often located on the banks of a river, spread out their terraces under the trees of the park.
