Čačak (115,000 inhabitants) is in the heart of a typical Central Serbian region for its natural beauties: valleys and small hills, but also Morava River defile. Rural and green tourism is quite developed here, and offers a wide range of accommodation options. The town itself is not very attractive, but it occupies a crossroads position in the center of Choumadie. This crossroads role explains the ancient settlement of the area: one of the oldest traces of occupation in the area is in the nearby locality of Gradina on Mount Jelica. Here, the foundations of an enclosure from the 6th century B.C. have been discovered.
