This set of young mountains was for a long time part of the Pannonian Sea. The result is a number of deep valleys, such as the Brusnica or the Derventa, with beautiful canyons. Two high altitude lakes complete the picture. One, Perućac, serves a hydroelectric plant; the other, Zaovine, located in the heart of the park, is of great beauty, with its emerald green waters.
