This village, 11 km from Valjevo, is a popular place for cultural tourism. Take the road to Šabac, and just after the village of Brankovina (which is not signposted), notice the sign on the left in Cyrillic for Turist - Kompleks Brankovina. Drive into the forest and you will soon reach the historical village, which is recognizable by the wooden hedges surrounding it. The village was founded in the 15th century and in the 19th century it became the birthplace of the famous Nenadović family: Knez Aleksa, Voivode Jakov and Pope Mateja, in addition to the famous Sima and Ljuba. In addition, the school in Brankovina welcomed on its benches the poetess Desanka Maksimović. A set that makes this village the most visited by Serbs. Starting the tour from the left, you will discover the church of the holy archangels Michael and Gabriel, built in 1830 on the site of several small wooden churches, burned by the Turks.In addition, Brankovina organizes important cultural events, including every May 16, the birthday of Desanka Maksimović, the prize for the best poetry awarded in a rural setting. In October, the village brings together writers from all over the world. Each time, these events are accompanied by folk dances, classical concerts and performances where poems are read or sung.
