85 km from Belgrade, near the Romanian border, this town of 40,000 inhabitants has long been the economic and cultural center of the southern Banat region. Vršac is known for its young and fruity wine and for its pleasant climate. The town is situated on the green hills of the Vršački Breg (641 m high) and has a pleasant atmosphere for walking. It is a pleasure to stroll among the palaces and churches of the 19th century, then to climb to the heights of the city where a splendid panorama embraces the plain of Banat. This green setting and pure air, an hour's drive from the Serbian capital, explain the presence here of many sports training camps for national basketball and volleyball teams.
