Initially a simple medieval villa, Bollwiller became the centre of a seigneury in 1135. The village gradually grew around the castle built in the 14th century. One of the lords, Nicolas de Bollwiller, was in the service of the emperors of Austria, Charles V and Ferdinand, but it is to Rodolphe de Bollwiller that we owe the castle we know today, which he had built in the 16th century. The Argenson Manor, the parish church with its high altar and the synagogue are also witnesses to this rich historical past.
