ZEPTER MUSEUM

Mrs. Madlena Zepter, born Janković, is a great philanthropic and business personality of the Serbian capital. Together with her husband, Philip Zepter, also an extremely influential businessman, they form a real power couple: both are in their 70s but continue to fund a large number of cultural and sports activities. The Zepter Museum is the child of the Belgrade woman and world citizen who donated several cultural institutions to her hometown: the Zepter Gallery, the Madlenianum Opera and Theatre, the Zepter Book World bookstore and publishing house, and the Madl'Art auction house. It is the first private art museum in the country (opened on July¹, 2010), and it is hoped that it will be emulated. Currently, it has more than 393 works of Serbian art from the second half of the twentieth and early twenty-first century. The place also organizes many cultural events to promote Serbian art and better insert the country in the global cultural networks. The collection is interesting and better presented than in the state museums, which are often late in museography and renewal of their offer, due to lack of means, political and public interest, trained and experienced staff. In this respect, the Zepter-Janković Foundation can be the precursor of a new era of culture in Belgrade. The collection is growing every year and is worth a visit when you inevitably pass by during your visit to the capital.
