GARDOŠ HILL (ГАРДОШ)
Petit Futé's opinion on GARDOŠ HILL (ГАРДОШ)
The favourite area of the Zemunois and the Dnevni in a green area, whose cobbled streets and traditional restaurants make the walkers happy. Here, you must first walk around the docks and watch the ballet of fishermen and boaters on their boats, and then climb towards the hill. You will find several interesting houses below, like the Maison house - at 17 De Gupca Street - one of the oldest in the city. Built in 1763 in a baroque style with a classic façade, it was inhabited by illustrious characters such as Emperor Joseph II or the writer Vuk Karadžić. The Karamata family, which has lived continuously since 1772, has preserved the old interior interior as well as several valuable paintings. Some walls bear the coat of arms of the Austrian Imperial Army. At No. 10 of Vasiljevića Street is the house Beli Medved, a very rustic construction of 1717, 2 floors, with wooden balconies and roof tiles. Eugene de Savoie stayed there during his campaign against the Turks.
