Petit Futé's opinion on STUDENTSKI TRG (СТУДЕНТСКИ СТУДЕНТСКИ)

This square close to the Knez Mihailova is surrounded by famous university buildings and monuments. There is the park of the same name. Captain Miša's house, at No. 1 of the square, is today the headquarters of the University of Belgrade. It was originally the home of Miša Anastasijević, the richest man in Serbia in the 1830 s. In 1863, it became a public building: high school, Ministry of Education, National Library, its use by the Serbian state was eclectic in the th century. The building surprises the mixture of red and ochre colours and the confusion of styles, gothic, renaissance and Byzantine. Also on the square, the statue erected in honour of the Serbian writer and teacher Dositej Obradović (1742-1811), dating from 1914 and one of the most beautiful sculptures in the city. The monument to Montenegrin poet Petar Petrović Njegoš (1813-1851) lies between the faculty of philosophy and the rector.
