It is one of the jewels of baroque art in Haute-Savoie. This art was born in Italy in the 16th century and crossed the Alps with the Frahans (masons) to spread in Haute-Savoie. The parish of the upper Val Montjoie (now Saint-Nicolas de Véroce) is located on the old road linking Piedmont to Geneva and Valais. Built in 1726, the exterior architecture of the Saint-Nicolas church is sober, contrasting with the joyful colors of the different elements, and the vaults painted in the blue of Saint-Nicolas in 1856. A museum of sacred art is visible in the adjoining presbytery.

Le baroque de Savoie doit tout aux piémontais qui sont venus maçonner et aussi peindre, ici dans ce sublime bleu si caractéristique. Le musée religieux d'à côté explique les conditions dans lesquelles s'effectuaient ces courants de population.
