Bonassola is a small resort town that is very popular with artists and attracts a large number of vacationers every summer. In the village, the popular 18th century houses are harmoniously joined by more modern ones, while on the hill, elegant villas, surrounded by the Mediterranean scrub, complete the landscape. Like most Ligurian villages, Bonassola lived in fear of sea pirate incursions, so much so that its inhabitants were the first to introduce an insurance system. In 1659, Bonassola had a fund for the ransom of villagers who fell into the hands of raiders.
