Theodore Monod was the initiator of the Noflaye Botanical Garden, which at the time maintained 600 plant species. At that time it was a veritable jungle, so organized that it was almost impossible to see the sun beyond the canopy of trees. A stream came from Thiès, which passed through the reserve and fed the flora. Following the development of Thiès, it is now dry, with the result that 200 species have disappeared. But the history of the Monod reserve has been booming since 2000, when it began to welcome the Sulcata turtles, an emblematic species of the country that can reach 100 kg.
