The village of Etsha, or rather the thirteen villages making it up, was built in 1969 to accommodate hambukushu refugees fleeing the civil war in Angola. They are now organized and integrated into the life of the region. Etsha 6, the most developed village, is the centre of this complex. It will be the object of an interesting craft stop. Indeed, it is one of the high places of the manufacture of the Botswana baskets decorating the craft shops of the Okavango. Accessible only by 4 x 4, two camps share Nguma Island: Guma Lagoon Camp, starting from Etsha 13, and Nguma Island Camp, by a marked trail a little north of Etsha 13.
