Makawo is the only town that moves a little in the hinterland! A real downtown, stores, restaurants, a good bakery, art galleries and even a bar where you can dance! Makawao is worth a stop, if only to discover Maui's cowboys, the paniolos, and to soak up its very western atmosphere. Its slopes on the side of the volcano are ideal for agriculture and cattle breeding, taking advantage of the cool climate and the fertility of the volcanic soil. If you pass by in the summer, don't miss the legendary rodeo that takes place there at the beginning of July, accompanied by a parade and concerts, a local atmosphere guaranteed.
