Arch of almost 30 m high in the open sea which is not made of stone but of lava hardened following its contact with the sea

An arch of almost 30 m high in the open sea. Unlike most of the sea arches in Hawaii, it is not made of stone but of lava hardened by contact with the sea. According to the legend, it is there that Pele (goddess of volcanoes) would have violently argued with her sister Namakaokahai (goddess of the oceans). Its name, Holei, comes from a small plant endemic to Hawaii (Orchrosia) that can be found on the slopes of the volcano. Other lesser-known arches can be seen along the coast, but they gradually collapse with the waves.

Located at the end of the "Chain of Craters Road" this lavish lava arch. During our visit, rain and cold on the crater of Kilauea, beautiful weather and warmth by the sea.

Rather original site. We can approach it fairly easily. The ark is really well cut and is very photogenic with the ocean in the bottom, even if you have to lean a little in the vacuum to get a picture. At the end of the day, it's a little on the back.
