With a population of about 4,000, the small town of Haleiwa is the unofficial surfing capital of the world. Art galleries and surf stores with colorful storefronts, Hawaiian restaurants and shave-ice vendors, beautiful beaches with huge waves that are challenged every winter by the world's surfing kings... all of these picturesque elements make Haleiwa a major Oahu landmark that should not be missed under any circumstances. It is also the meeting point between the road that runs along the north coast and the crossroads that leads to Honolulu through the agricultural plains, a very pleasant stop.
