The village of Auron has a history dating back to the last century and inexorably linked to its development as a ski resort. Inaugurated on January 30, 1937 as the third in France, the cable car and its associated facilities forged the reputation of the resort as we know it today. At the time, it carried 25 people at the extraordinary speed of 2 m/sec! A year later, it would have the honor of hosting the 27th national championships. A sensational entry into the sport, severely curtailed by the unfortunate wartime period. It would take almost 30 years to get back on track. This time, the trigger came from the immediate vicinity, with the launch of Isola 2000. Inadequate in the 1960s, its facilities were soon modernized and expanded. A sort of well-managed renaissance, as it soon bore the expected fruit. Indeed, since 1979, the resort has hosted the French Alpine skiing championships three times, for both men and women. But there's much more to Auron than spicy alpine sensations. If you let your mind wander across the steep landscape in the almost constant breeze, you'll find yourself imagining the conditions of yesteryear... a time when time was not governed by the simple clock and when the peregrine was more than rare, due to the lack of road infrastructure. An ancestral cultural space that developed its own internal codes, in close association with the mother mountain.
