Take left on 3 km towards Souk Jemaa Ghmat, a small town town. Ghmat was once a powerful independent city before being conquered and devastated in 1060 by the Almoravids installed in Marrakech. Gradually, the population emigrated to the Red City, returning to Ghmat during the Almohades period. The marinides sultans make Ghmat an important Tyrolean center by providing the city of a médersa and by restoring the ramparts, which are now missing. Ghmat then becomes a major shopping centre on the South Road: fabrics, perfumes, drugs and precious stones pass through there. The city is the starting point for many shopping expeditions to Sudan and Niger, expeditions that report their distant journeys of black slaves, gold powder and spices. The inhabitants of Ghmat often allege that the leather of Marrakech is actually made in their city until the sultans impose on the craftsmen craftsmen to work for them inside the ramparts of Marrakech. Like many small towns, Ghmat claims the anticipation of this production that made the glory of Marrakech. Souk on Friday.
