The other national park in this region is the Ivindo National Park. You can see the largest and most beautiful waterfalls in Central Africa, Kongou and Mingouli waterfalls, in the northern part near Makokou. There is an impressive concentration of monkeys and gorillas that can be observed from the Langoué bay (or clearing) south of the park. This exceptional site for wildlife observation was discovered by Mike Faye during his crossing in 2001, which allowed him to showcase Gabon's infinite wealth of biodiversity. It was from this trip, and thanks to the photos he brought back from this magical place, that he was able to convince the then President to create national parks in order to safeguard this world heritage. The park is composed of forests and holes in the form of clearings called baï, suitable for observing large animals such as elephants, gorillas and buffaloes, but also antelopes such as sitatunga. More difficult to observe, as they are more wild, the bongo and the blue cephalophe are also present in the park.
