Hunahpú, as the Mayans call it, rises to an altitude of 3,766 meters. If it is inactive and covered with vegetation, coffee and corn plantations, it still buried the ancient capital of the country, Santiago de los Caballeros, in 1541, when it was installed at the level of the current Ciudad Vieja. The cause was an earthquake that led to the collapse of the crater, which caused a powerful avalanche of mud, trees, water and stones.
