Opposite Cachoeira, on the other bank of the Rio Paraguaçu, the small town of São Felix, founded in the 16th century, is of real interest. (To get there, you have to cross the iron bridge built in 1885). São Felix's main attraction is the Dannemann cultural center.A stroll through the streets of São Félix takes the traveller back in time, when the saveiros transported produce from the countryside to the then capital, Salvador de Bahia. Thanks to the intermingling of European, Afro-Brazilian and indigenous Tupinamba heritage, São Felix is a melting pot for much of Bahia's rich history.
