Montezuma is often called by the locals "Montefuma", because of the baba cool side of its travelers (even more than on the Caribbean coast, that is to say!) who smoke a lot, and not only cigarettes. So expect a Woodstock-like atmosphere, especially in the hostels. The small town is home to a population of hippies, artists who seek a more alternative, peaceful and festive life here. Montezuma suffers from its popularity among campers and hikers, yet the beauty of its small, almost intimate beach, rocky coves and waterfalls makes the fishing village one of the most beautiful of Costa Rica's small paradises. It takes a good hour by car, after the ferry crossing, to get there. The trip alone is a journey for enthusiastic hikers, who should not lose sight of the fact that not all paradises are eternal and that they can disappear under the rubbish. Sometimes they have forgotten this so much that the Montezumeños have created an ecological protection fund to discipline tourists. In addition to the walks or activities of all kinds on the beaches with crystal clear waters, the visit of the reserve of Montezuma is a must, with beautiful hikes in the jungle in the program, with the discovery of an exuberant fauna and a flora. The canopy, south of the village also offers beautiful shows between waterfalls and natural pools
