Puerto Viejo is the home of the Bribrí and Cabécar Indians, who live alongside Jamaican farmers (who speak a Spanish-speaking English that is difficult to understand) and descendants of Spanish settlers. A charming little fishing village, with a lively center in the morning and late afternoon, Puerto Viejo stretches for several hundred meters along dreamy beaches, both to the north (Playa Negra) and to the south (Playa Cocles, Playa Chiquita, Punta Uva). The place suffers a little from its success in high season, but it is by going to Punta Uva that we discover all its hidden treasures. It is then the nature which sings at your window!
