In Camagüey, if everything is so beautiful, it's because the city had a facelift in 2014 since it was largely repainted and restored for the celebration of its 500 years. The richness of its cultural heritage, its many pedestrian streets, its very old historical center, its clay roofs, its colonial setting, its churches and its cultural level are all charming assets that deserve several days in your planning, and have moreover earned it to be declared a World Heritage Site in late 2008. Little inclined to tourism, Camagüey allows an in-depth approach of the culture and the way of life of the Cubans. Contrary to the historical center of Trinidad which is often a little too invaded by tourists, here, tourism remains confidential and often unnoticed. And it is good to feel almost alone among the locals! We will mingle with the crowd on the Calle República, now pedestrian after long works, or on one of the numerous squares, most often arranged around the places of worship. The urban layout, far from respecting the orthogonal plans applied almost everywhere in Cuba, appears much more tangled than elsewhere. More than an architect's vision, it was in fact an ingenious defensive system intended to divert pirate attacks. In this field, the region has not been spared..
