Marking the present downtown area, this beautiful example of the Art Deco style was built by the French between 1935 and 1937 on the site of a vast swamp. The yellow building consists of a large central dome and four galleries oriented at 90 degrees. It's worth a visit, out of curiosity. In fact, you can find almost everything. However, it is better to avoid buying everyday products there because the merchants, now accustomed to tourists, tend to offer exorbitant prices.
