Boston's oldest surviving church, whose crypt contains the remains of over a thousand people
This church was built in 1723 by William Price, who was inspired by the churches of Sir Christopher Wren in London. It is the oldest surviving church in Boston. Its crypt contains the remains of more than a thousand people, buried between 1732 and 1860. Each family of the revolutionary era, such as that of Paul Revere, had its own space reserved for the church, in a kind of closed pews called pews, with a plaque at the entrance bearing their name. Inside, busts of George Washington and the Marquis de Lafayette can be admired.
