Highly recommended, the visit of Nazinga Park allows, at a 3 hour drive from Ouagadougou, to discover most of the fauna and flora characteristic of the Sudan-Guinean region.Nazinga Ranch was born of the passion for the wild animal breeding of Clark and Robert Lungreen, two young naturalists of Canadian origin born in Burkina Faso. They found that the sustainability of protected areas in the country was far from being assured, particularly because of poaching, the recurrent invasion of cattle and, in some places, the réexploitation of wild areas classified by peasants. They therefore imagined the creation of a nature-based breeding zone and imported into Burkina Faso a concept of exploitation better known in Southern Africa: cattle cattle. Game ranching is a method of exploitation of wild fauna, which consists in taking large quantities of animals, but controlled, for commercial purposes, while allowing vision tourism. This is a regular and sustainable collection of specific species, age and sex. Meat, skins, trophies and various derivatives are the subject of a trade that returns to the ranch. The two brothers sought permission from the government of Burkina Faso to enhance the vast natural space of the classified Nazinga forest. With the support of a Canadian NGO (Association for the Development of African Wildlife), the project was accepted subject to government co-management participation. In 1979, the project was implemented and the space granted now extends over 97 000 hectares. Between 1979 and 1989, $ 11 million was injected into the company, dedicated to the development of facilities and infrastructure, including 600 km of trails, 11 water intakes and a comprehensive outreach program for riparian populations and guides. At the same time, intense research activity was carried out by teams of scientists on the reserve.
