Écréhous is an archipelago of small islets, only three of which have houses. The inhabitants, mostly from Jersey, are not year-round residents. The houses are of limited comfort, but the interiors are well appointed and cute. There is no electricity. At high tide, the sight is breathtaking. A dozen or so houses, solidly clinging to a few granite rocks, just rise above the waves. Some are isolated, others huddle together as if to better resist the wind. And, of course, there's not a single souvenir store in sight.
