Separated from Herm in the 8th or 10th century after a violent storm, Jethou also includes the islets of Crevichon and La Grande Fauconnière, which are linked to it at low tide. A tiny island of some 20 hectares, its most famous tenant was the writer Compton Mackenzie, who lived there for 7 years from 1923. It is said that he wrote 14 books there. He moved here after selling Herm, which he also owned, to Lord Perry, a Ford executive. The States of Guernsey (the Guernsey Parliament) took over in 1946 and leased the land. The current tenants have privatized the island, so it cannot be visited.
