The small village of Saint-Aubin is located 5 kilometers from Saint-Hélier. It is the second largest town on the Island of Jersey. And undoubtedly one of the most charming! The village is beautifully laid out around a magnificent harbor, the first pier of which was built as early as 1675. The houses along today's harbour, The Bulwarks, date from 1790. In fact, it wasn't until the 19th century that the coastal road leading to the town from the capital, Saint-Hélier, was built. Then, in 1870, the railroad line linking Saint-Aubin to the capital was opened. It was then that the village's importance declined, as most activities were transferred to the nearby town (still Saint-Hélier). In the end, Saint-Aubin never gained an economic or demographic advantage over Saint-Hélier. Today, the little fishing port, where boats sway or freeze in the mud, is one of Jersey's most enchanting urban landscapes. Colorful, tranquil, authentic... You'll feel right at home here, among the old buildings, restaurant terraces featuring local produce, small craft stores and even art galleries. Set back a little from the port, you can also climb up High Street and its charming, colorful mansions built by wealthy merchants in the 18th century. The panoramic view takes in the whole bay. Of course, photos are a must! In short, we love it. And it's clearly our favorite place, far from the "glitz" of the capital...
