A parish on the island's south-western coast, Saint-Brelade is a pretty seaside resort and a renowned tourist site with a beautiful view over Saint-Hélier and the whole of Saint-Aubin Bay. The parish boasts a number of beautiful beaches, including the very popular Saint-Brelade's Bay and Beau Port, the smallest sandy beach on the south coast, set in a cove lost between escarpments. Because it's so sheltered and pleasant, Saint-Brelade's Bay is the most popular beach on the island, and rightly so. It's so well designed, with its advanced rocks and well-placed pine trees (leaning just right to merit a photo), that it could be cited as a model for amateur painters. It's a pity that the exterior architecture of the hotels lining the coast is not quite up to scratch. The fine sand is perfect for strolling, swimming and sunbathing. At high tide, take the pleasant path between the beach and the hotels and watch the waves crashing against the embankment. Well-placed benches allow you to enjoy the view. To the west, the bay is dominated by a pretty tree-lined cemetery and two stone churches, where one imagines novel-worthy sailors' widows mourning their husbands lost at sea.
