An important and busy crossroads, Lorient serves the entire eastern part of the island. The town owes its name, as you might guess, to the Breton pioneers who planted their gwenn ha du flag here. It's the surfers' beach, with the brightly-colored shack rebuilt after Irma. You can visit its flower-filled cemetery, church and presbytery. And of course, like the rest of the island, Lorient has come out of its quietude since Johnny Hallyday's final resting place. Here, you'll find comfortable accommodation at reasonable prices, even on the seafront, and plenty of supplies.
